Had a phenomenal time last night at the Reno Ballroom playing for our men and women in uniform, some who had just returned from deployments in Afghanistan. I volunteered my time and was rewarded by lots and lots of dancing and tired feet towards the end of the night. What an amazing and stunning-looking bunch of folks! You see these men and women around town in their camo uniforms and they look purposeful and serious, but seeing them in their formal uniforms is a real treat. I was truly proud of them and happy to be able to play them the songs that made them dance and get close to that wife or husband that maybe hadn't seen much of them for the past year.
Governor Sandoval was there and met and shook hands with the guests until he had carpal-tunnel I'd imagine. He seems like a fine commander in chief of Nevada's Guard and is well-liked by the troops. I kept thinking I'd get over there and say hello, but the dance floor never let up and there was always a crowd of sharp-dressed troops talking with him. No worries.
My son Kenny helped me deejay and collected the many requests that came from the floor. He is in ROTC at his high school and it was great that he could experience this event and see the great people serving our country and state.
Charlie and Doug, the Dancin' Partners, were also there and graced the floor with their amazing and seemingly effortless dancing. Charlie is involved in many Veterans groups and boards and was a full-bird colonel in the Army before she started teaching us Nevadans how to really light up the dance floor. She was also was a great help in deciphering the various uniforms and what they signified. What a great event, and thanks go out to Keith and Jerome as well as the great staff from the Silver Legacy who really are top-notch. Hoo-rah!

Marc & Stacy at Tannenbaum, 1-1-11
Marc & Stacy had their wedding reception at the Tannenbaum Events Center on Mount Rose Highway above Reno and Washoe Valley on New Year's Day. What an easy anniversary date to remember! The roads were clear but light snow fell at times, giving the already spectacular view a tinge of holiday cheer. Their guests were treated to hors'deurves and beer and wine while the bridal party took pictures. Stacy & Marc had an ingenious idea for the guestbook: they had a photobooth on site, and the guests had their picture taken, got to keep it as a momento, and then signed pieces of art-paper which will become pages of the guestbook. Copies of the pictures will then be applied to each page, and voila! A totally unique and fun guestbook!
After pictures and a Grand Entrance, Stacy & Marc danced to "Whatever It Is" by Zac Brown for their first dance as man & wife. Then Pastor Mike gave a prayer to bless the couple and the food, and it was off to the buffet for a delicious dinner.
After dinner, some great toasts were made by Matt, Macy, Kristi and the two dads Bob & Terry, and then Bob had a video surprise of snapshots and music of the newlyweds from toddler to today.
The father-daughter dance was next, with Bob & Stacy dancing to "I Loved Her First" by Heartland. Then Marc and his mom Karen danced to "Mama" by Boyz II Men before open dancing began.
The Anniversary Dance saw a lot of lengthy unions recognized, but the last two couples on the floor both had been married for 40 years! An auspicious start for Marc & Stacy and something we can all aspire to...
Lots of requests came in throughout the evening and the dancefloor was the place to be. Some of the favorite songs played were: Bon Jovi's "Living on a Prayer", Garth's "Friends in Low Places", Shania's "Any Man of Mine" and many others. Lots of group dancing rocked the dancefloor to such hits as "Cupid Shuffle", "Cotton-eyed Joe", "Cha Cha Slide" and doing the electric slide to "Men in Black". It was also great to play Terry & Karen's (Marc's parents) song, "Luchenbach Texas" and to realize that they were re-living their wedding from years ago.
Great people, fun dancing and Stacy & Marc living their dream. I was honored to be a part of it. Congrats you two!

Kyle & Torie at Edgewood, 11-5-10
Torie & Kyle were married & had their reception at Edgewood this weekend. It was a beautiful day, but windy so they elected to have the ceremony inside in the center of the building where the windows and columns remind one of a cathedral. The flowers and expert touches by Chrissy from Quality Event Designs really helped make the ceremony & reception special and unique to Torie & Kyle. Torie walked down the aisle with her dad Jerry to Canon in D, and she and Kyle departed to 'All I Want is You' from 'Juno'.
The reception began with cocktails & hors d'eurves while the B&G were getting photographed on the Tahoe shore. A couple of tips about Edgewood : in off-season apparently the basic wine, beer & bubbly are free (and their 'basics' are not junk; the beer was Fat Tire) and also the most amazing hors d'eurve I ever had was their slider: a mini-burger with fried onions that is the best slider I've ever eaten... They were a hit even amongst their other amazing hors d'eurves.
Then Kyle & Torie entered to their first dance 'Better Together' by Jack Johnson (above pic) and then led everone through the amazing food line (the stuffed pork loin & the pasta salad were the best I've ever eaten, and I'm part Italian!). After some great toasts by Tyler & Megan and dad Jerry, the dancing started and never stopped except when the cake was cut. What a crowd! Photographer Emily Main helped me find a Panjabi MC song that rocked the house and everyone sang loudly to 'Sweet Caroline' and 'Don't Stop Believin'. It was the kind of crowd every DJ dreams about: requests kept coming in and the dance-floor was always full and by the time the evening was over everyone was tired, hoarse, and happy.
One more accolade about Edgewood. Normally when you have a venue as gorgeous and situated on Lake Tahoe like it is, you pay for the view and atmosphere and the service is so-so. Other venues with less inspiring views & architecture have to work harder at service to make up for their location. Absolutely not so with the people at Edgewood. Not only is it breathtaking, but the service there is top-notch. I worked with Walter, Nancy, & Joanne amongst others that night, and each was very helpful, extremely professional and a real joy to work with while coordinating the reception. Other venues I have had to remind the staff several times that the B&G are ready for this event, or ask when will they be ready for another. But with Walter and staff, they were asking me if I was ready, or already on the case if I started to gauge their readiness for an upcoming event. Efficient, friendly, and the kind of people that make the guests feel right at home. Kudos Edgewood!
